MBBR is compact, simple to operate and very efficient for the removal of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), ammonia and nitrogen from both municipal and industrial wastewater.
MBBR is submerged attached growth process, MBBR system consist of an aeration tank similar to activated sludge tank with its special plastic carrier that provides a surface where biofilm can grow this process consist of adding a small cylindrical shape polyethylene element which helps specific density of 0.96g/cum to support biofilm growth. Small cylindrical cylinders are about 10mm in dia. and 7mm height with cross inside the cylinder and longitudinal fins on the outside. The packing may fill 25 to 50% of tank volume.
